THE PUYEHUE-CORDON CAULLE VOLCANIC COMPLEX:
The CVPCC (by it´s name in spanish) it´s a volcanic system with a NW-SE orientation that´s composed by three main volcanoes: Puyehue (2240 m.o.s.l); Cordón Caulle (1793 m.o.s.l) and the Cordillera Nevada (Snowed Mountain range). Puyehue means Fishes place in mapuche language(Hue=Place and Puyes (Fishes). Caulle means Seagull in mapuche. The complex is found in chilean territory only 35kms in a straight line from Villa la Angostura. That´s why in it´s last eruption, the ashes, favored by a NW-SE wind; reached our town, leaving it immerse during various months under a thick layer of volcanic sand that challenged our population in an urban sense, as well as social, economic and emotional.
