THE CORDÓN CAULLE'S ERUPTION RECORD:
The eruptive activity that has progressively given form to this volcanic field started nearly 500 thousand years ago; developing contemporaneously butindependently tothe main centers of the volcanic complex. Thisfirst construction phase ended with collapses and intense erosion periods. It was followed by the reforming of the volcanic buildings in the last 100 thousand years that gave form to the ones we have today. It´s estimated that the oldest eruptions happened 300.000 years ago, in the pleistocene. Of the volcanic complex only the Puyehue and Cordón Caulle volcanoes have erupted during the holocene, and only Cordón Caulle has historic eruptions. The last one was on June 4thof 2011.
