“LA FLECHA”´S FORMER SPOT IN BAHÍA BRAVA
In this lot
functioned, since the 30s the general store known as “La Flecha” (The Arrow).
It was founded by José Luis Barbagelata, a pioneer of the area that, along with
his brothers, settled many shops and businesses related to product supply and
transport for the village.
This store was a
place for social encounters and even people form the other side of the lake
would come to provide themselves. In the year 1944, there was a great snowstorm
that caused the death of various livestock, but the Barbagelata provided the
townsfolk with supply at their own expense. This is an anecdote that reflects
the solidarity of the time.
It is said that
in order to avoid having to go all the way around the peninsula to go from one
bay to the other; the people would drag their boats (Little ones) across the
isthmus.
In front of the
lot it´s the building of the “Angostura” Social and Sports Club which was the
first club of the village and it´s still running. The Barbagelata brothers were
a part of it´s creation too; were along with the other townsfolk made it the
main gathering spot. It´s members still follow the tradition of making a big party
on May 24th waiting to celebrate the 25th, A national
holiday remembering the “Revolución de Mayo” (May´s Revolution)
