The main effect of the Cordón Caulle has been the emission of volcanic ash. This ashes can travel thousands of kilometersduring prolonged periods of time and, althoughit´s true that in first instance it can provokesevere damage like breathing issuesfor humans and animals, harming wildlife, lost of agricultural resources, damage to engines, etc…; on the long run, it has beneficialeffects onthe environment. The volcanic ash is a composition of very fine minerals ejected by a volcanic wind. This ashes have a size smaller than 2mm, and that´s why the eruptive column takes them to great heights were they travel long distances before falling to the ground. However, In eruptions of great magnitude, the ashes are accompanied by rocks that can be as dense and heavy as hail.
